One of the first projects R&D has taken on is the Bluetooth controlled grain gate
This product has been developed within R&D and has come to pass after engaging with industry who were looking for a simple and effective solution remotely unloading product through the rear bag gate on a trailer. This task is known for being difficult for one person often taking two people to complete without wastage. Additionally, the companies that they are delivering to are also looking at eliminating the need for “Live Work”. Working within close proximity to the chutes presents its own risks. Utilising the R&D grain gate system solves two of the biggest problems that both parties are having.
When starting out with this project we identified that other manufactures had made similar gates. What sets the R&D gate apart from the others is the simple design and quality parts. Going back to basics and offering a straightforward yet versatile product allows the customer to get a cost-effective solution that can be tailored to the induvial needs. The gate is driven by Linak actuator and controlled by an ICARUS Bluetooth module which can be programmed on the go depending on the application and needs of the customer.
Throughout the development of this product R&D engaged with key stake holders including farmers, truck drivers and engineers to get the best result. Taking this information and setting a goal to develop a prototype, we would use this to prove that this new system would work. Once the prototype had been assembled it was fitted to a trailer for the first trial. This gate did a season of seeding without any concerns only a minor wiring issue at the start. The overall feedback from the trial was positive how ever there was some opportunities that were identified. We took on the feedback and integrated these opportunities into the design which has become the product that we have today.

The control system for all gates has proven to be difficult to standardise given this gate can be used in a wide range of applications and each trailer having a different setup. We offer a R&D box which has been designed to control the actuator also giving the option to plug in and use the other outputs as needed, this can be viewed by clicking the following link. Without using an automated solution people unloading through a conventional control manual gate were coming up against problems including, loss of material, miscommunication, having to rush around and try and do 2 things at the same time resulting in wastage and loss of time.
